So...maybe people will jump on me here but I think this is cool. It’s an app that makes it easier to read things on AO3. It doesn’t take credit for our stories and it’s super easy to leave comments and kudoes.

The app maker makes money and we get more readers, how is that bad?

I see your point @emmilynestill​ - I too, thought it was cool to reach more readers. I guess the problem is they took the works without asking and now they are making a profit through the app. But they do not claim the stories are theirs...definitely worth thinking about. Also will the original copyright holders come after the apps as they are making a profit?

My works are currently now only visible to registered members of AO3. It might make things easier to read on AO3 but as an author I didn’t consent to my works being available on third party applications, and I’m not happy about this third party application making any subscription money off of my works. 

Also, what about those of us who are in the process of removing works from AO3 to be able to turn this into original works for publishing? That’s the best point I’ve seen raised as it may have implications for further publications.

GUYS!!!! Your response to this so far has been so incredible. I was really worried about how people would take the subject matter on this one, especially as this prologue doesn’t give away too much of the actual plot, but your interest in this is really amazing. 

I’ve done probably more research for this fic than any of the others I’ve written, mostly because I’ve been writing this over the last three years and it’s pushed me to the brink so many times, but finally seeing that you guys are excited for it is so motivating!
